Chapman is Professor in the Department of Orthopaedics and Adjunct Professor in the Department of Neurological Surgery at the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle. He is also employed as a spine service faculty member at Puget Sound Veterans Administration Medical Center in Seattle. He has written two books, The Spine Manual and Spinal Cord Injuries, and has been on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's advisory panel for spinal devices since 1997. Chapman received his bachelor of science degree from the Universitaet Regensburg in Regensburg, Germany, and earned his medical degree from Technische Universitaet Muenchen in Munich, Germany. An interview with Ernest U. “Chappie” Conrad III, M.D., F.A.C.S.

Dr. Conrad received his medical degree from the University of Virginia after graduating from Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia. He completed his orthopaedic training at the Hospital for Special Surgery and served as a fellow in orthopaedic oncology for Dr. William Enneking at the University of Florida, and also as a fellow in pediatric orthopaedics for Dr. Mercer Rang at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Ontario.

Dr. Chapman has been invited by the Department of the Army to spend 2 weeks as an Orthopaedic Distinguished Visiting Surgeon at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany.
